Curses

Curses are not made lightly in Ymirea. As one speaks, the world listens.

Curses are never taken lightly. The world is full of witches, conjurers and sorcerers, many of whom try to remain incognito. Even an ordinary person's words may carry weight with the world, if spoken with passion. Hence, a curse may or may not be considered a lesser offense than a punch.

One never curses oneself, unless as an expression of self-loathing, as part of a vow, or to give a statement weight. In the last case, wise men steer away from dangerous curses, rarely going further than "bugger me gently (if that isn't the biggest army I have ever seen)".

The most common explectives are "damn", "blast" and "damn and blast". Curses often refer to sickness, which is feared by all: "The pox on you", "the plague on you", "'god of choice' blast you with the plague", etc. Curses are rarely abstract: Not "fuck you" but "may a dozen centaurs tie you down and fuck you in the arse." In a world, curses are never taken lightly.
