Nymphs are unaging nature spirits, humanoid in form. They take the form of tall, attractive females. They resemble elves in many ways, but are feral and hardy. They are solitary and tend to avoid being perceived by humans, but they watch them carefully. Nymphs may aid those who give them proper worship, and will punish those who despoil the area under their protection. Nymphs may consort with gods, heroes and demi-gods.
Anemonads are the nymphs of the winds.
Alseids are woodland spirits, guardians of sacred groves.
Hamadryads are woodland spirits whose lives are bound to particular trees. They are the least potent and the most numerous of the nymphs.
Meliads are spirits of the woodlands, and are particularily associated with, and protective of, aesc trees.
Oreads are mountain spirits, living among the windswept peaks. They are particularily reclusive. Those travelling in their lands do well to appease them, as they may set of landslides and rock-falls should they find it proper.
Naiads are spirits of fresh-water bodies, of springs, streams and lakes. They are held to be daughters of the river-gods. Some naiads of springs may heal pious people drinking from their waters.
Nereids are spirits of the salt waters. They are held to be more fickle and mean-spirited than naiads.
