While not seen in the wilderness of the Free Kingdoms, these creatures have been reliably sighted elsewhere. Some are known through imports of fur, ivory and the like, while pards are imported live.
Calopes: A horned feline with fur striped red and grey, they are said to live in the far east. While few westerners have seen one alive, Calope fur and horn are popular luxury items.
Elephants: A large, thick-skinned creature with enormous tusks. A wise and strong beast, as big as an adult dragon. They are found in the far south and the far west, and the ivory from their tusks is a popular luxury item.
Griffons: Animals with a large feline body and the head and wings of a raptor, it is feared in the far south. Like calope fur and horns, griffons’ feathers are popular luxury items. They are used as decorations for cloaks, helmets, thrones and lances, and are also used in fans.
Leopard: These spotted felines are somewhat smaller than lions. Solitary and nocturnal, they are cowardly, treacherous and lethal stalkers, fond of the flesh of dogs and men. It is said that the leopard is the offspring of the adulterous lechery of a lion and a pard.
Lions: Large, golden-furred felines. Their males have large manes, while the females have less furred heads. They are feared in the south and the far south, and live in packs, one male with several females.
Pards: Smaller than lion and leopard, the pards are long-legged spotted cats, immensely fast. They can be trained as hunting beasts, and ownership of a pard is great status symbol.
Tygers: Another feline, some say it is even larger than a lion, with striped black, white and orange fur. Some say tygers breathe fire, others that they can become invisible. A treacherous, solitary and vicious beast, it is sometimes used as a symbol of evil or chaos.
Legendary Creatures
None of these creatures have been reliably observed, and it is unknown whether they are rare creatures, unique beings or entirely legendary.
The/A Basilisk is called king of the serpents, commonly depicted as a black snake with an enlarged, crowned head. Its touch and gaze is supposed to be deadly.
The/A Pegasus is depicted as a white horse with feathered wings. It is supposed to be a noble creature. Some say it was born from the/a gorgon’s severed neck.
Rimthussar and Glothussar are gigantic beings reputedly found to the far north and far south, respectively. Supposedly, they are stony beings with bodies infused with the extremes of temperature. Rimthussar are giants of cold, glothussar of fire. Either race shies away from less extreme temperatures, and fear the sun. It is told that they are gigantic like no other race save dragonkin, with bodies like hills and mountains.
