Djinn

The paraelemental spirits of the airy fire, djinn are humanoids with fire flowing in their veins. When a djinni dies, this fire bursts forth and envelops it, reducing it to ash in a moment. In what is assumed to be their natural form, they appear as large humanoids, between two and three yards tall, which may be repulsive or attractive to human eyes. They are adept shapechangers, however, and may turn into clouds of fiery smoke, assume the guise of other sentient races, or turn into animals. Their favoured animal form seems to be the serpent.

Unlike their cousins the steropes, djinn are found in the lower air, and even underground. However, they apparently do not venture north of the Barrier Mountains of their own volition. It is assumed that they find northern lands too humid.

Djinn are vastly more powerful than humans, both in terms of physical and magical power.
