Cats are generally aknowledged to be among the wisest of the animals dwelling with man. They can see spirits and other invisible creatures. They are also known to be hardy creatures, having nine lives. Cat pelts bring good luck and protect against bad dreams, though trapping a cat takes skill and perseverance.
Dogs are perhaps not as wise as cats, nor as good at detecting the unseen, but they are brave creatures, and unlike cats, they are loyal and obedient. Dogs are kept in most homes which can feed them.
Foxes are most cunning animals. Natural foxes represent no danger to humanity, but some are rumoured to have a touch of other worlds in them. Foxes are hunted for their fur.
Rats are the creatures of filth, the thralls of Namtar, the god of Disease. No plague will touch them. Rats may be created asexually, from wet rags left alone long enough, but they also breed normally and at great speeds at that.
Wolves are found in most wilderness areas in the known world. The northern wolves are grey, the souther more brown or reddish. Wolf packs are a great danger to the lifestock of the human races, but humans are usually attacked by lone wolves. Wolves are closely associated with werewolves and with goblins, and may follow the latter into battle. Some wolves have the evil eye, and can steal the voice of those they look on. Wolves are sacred to the gods of death and war, but are still hunted relentlessly by humans on most occasions.
