The Omphalic Desert is a wasteland in the middle of Terra Centralis.
The desert is named after the Mt. Omphalos, the mountain at the centre of the world. It is said that the gods have their thrones at the mount's peak, but though many have seen the sky-raking mountain, few have ever been close to it, in this day and age, much less attempted to scale it.
Legends speak of several cities lost in the desert, built by giants in a remote epoch, when the world was younger and more verdant. These are the City of Brass, the City of Copper, and foremost of all, Irem - the City of A Thousand Coloured Pillars.
It is rather hard to get absolutely lost in the Omphalic Desert, as the Mt. Omphalos looms in its centre, and can be seen from most places in the waste. However, as water and shelter are both scarce, getting slightly off course tends to be fatal.
Of the human race, only caravaneers and brigands brave the desert, but it is known that the martichorae make this desert their home.
