Boreal Ocean

The Boreal Ocean is the icy ocean of the north, a vast and trackless expanse said to extend to the very lips of the giant Aule, who blows chill and snow at the world, striving to freeze it solid. Only Fraegings dare sail it, and they only risk it in the summer. Even then, the waters are cool, and drifting ice is a constant hazard. Only one fleet ever sailed it in the winter, and that was the Fimbul horde, in vessels of ice.

Despite being inhospitable to men, the Boreal ocean is home to a teeming variety of other life, fish, seals, walrusses and whales. It is to fish and hunt that many Fraegings sail these waters, but they themselves are hunted by polar bears, kraken, seawyrms and orcs...

The Boreal ocean carries little commerce on its shard-spiked back, but some daring Fraegings sail between The Free Kingdoms, Rogrheimr and Svitjodgar, the main trade goods being pelts and ambegris.

It is said that one adventuresome vessel returned from the north laden with treasure, but that the last surviving crewmember died from exhaustion just after the ship docked in Parnaros.
