Mare Interior - The Inner Sea
The Mare Interior is a sizable sea, girdled by the lands of the Franks.
Control of the Mare Interior is seen as the source to ultimate control over the Frankish countries, and every war between the Magocratic Confederation and the Grand Kingdom of Clemencia, has been fought on sea as well as on land.
The Mare Interior is like a great broad road connecting all of the Frankish countries, and hundreds of merchant vessels sail these waters from spring to autumn. The sea bears nine tenths of all the goods transported between the Frankish countries.
The fish of the Mare Interior is eaten in along its entire coast, but the fisheries here are not nearly as great as those of the northern Shattered Coast. There used to be a thriving whaling industry here as well, but what whalers remain must sail beyond the Deccian Sea to find their prey. Fortunately, along with the disappearance of the whales came a significant decline in the orc sightings in these waters.
Generally, the number of fell creatures in the Mare Interior remains low, the greatest hazard being marine chimeras, spawned along the coast of the Confederation, and mainly striking there.
A most peculiar hazard to those sailing the Mare Interior are the wrongstorms. These storms are created by strange evaporations and energies arising within the Magocratic Confederation, and drifting out over the Mare Interior, where they coalescence into brief and furious storms. Under the clouds of a wrongstorm, it may indeed rain cats and dogs. Or stones, blood or fire. Thankfullly, such storms are very rare. Their coming is predicted by ghostly fire running over metal objects.
Without doubt, the greatest hazard to those travelling on the Mare Interior is piracy (and in wartime, privateers).
