Rògrheimr
Rògrheimr is a remote and backwards area, far from the bustling trade routes of the Mare Interior.
Rògrheimr is sparsely populated, having little and poor arable land, and many craggy mountains, vast stretches of dark coniferous forests and bleak marshland.
Rògrheimr is populated mainly by Fraegings, with some Morath elements. Whereas Fraegings are generally ridiculed (though not necessarily in their presence) for their uncouth ways, the Rògmen make Naamlendings seem suave, by comparison. The stereotypical Rògman speak only Ròg (a dialect of Naamlandic), and is suicidally depressed when sober, homicidally insane when drunk. He wears worn clothing with a cut associated with a different era, and keeps both beard and hair long. Rògmen are not considered filthy, though, they have a national tradition for saunas and icy baths.
Most Rògmen combine two out of three livelihoods: farming, fishing and hunting. Farming is low-yield (1:3).
Rògrheimr exports fish (smoked, dried, salted and pickled) and pelts. The realm has an abundance of fine timber, but there is limited demand for it domestically, and the combination of poor infrastructure and remote markets forces logging to remain a minor industry.
Most trade routes towards the Orient steer well south of Rògrheimr, as the waters around it are stormy, and the Rògmen are notorious pirates and shipwreckers. Rògmen were long kept away from southern waters by the Cargan navy, but after its decline, they have resumed attacking merchant ships on the Fair Ocean, and coastal settlements in Bôth. Such raids are often unsuccessful, but those who succeed can retire in comfort in Rògrheimr after a single year of raiding.
The typical Rògman pirate wears chain, and carries a Fraeging shield and a battle axe. They are also passable archers.
Rògmen are extremely egalitarian among their own, considering all Rògmen free and equal (and all others potential thralls). Their chieftains and earls hold limited authority, and despite some sporadic attempts at forging the land into a kingdom, the midsummer Allthing remains the supreme (and - pretty much -only) judicial and legislative body.
Rògrheimr was a key point of the westwards migration of Fraeging tribes in the days of the Ethnarcs. It was from Rògrheimr's northern coast that the ancestors of the Naamlendigs set sail, braving the Boreal Ocean to settle the lands around the sea of bounty. Rògrheimr was never invaded by the Cargans, much less colonized by them.
