Javigera

This kingdom is an island realm, consisting of five major islands, and a dozen minor ones. However, the southernmost island, and parts of its closest neighbour is held by Haram. There are hundreds of islets, not marked on major maps.

The Javigeran islands are rocky and weathered. The rock is relatively soft, and found mostly in shades of white and yellow. The winds and spirits have carved it into picturesque formations. What soil exists is nested in bays, valleys, canyons and fissures, girdled with rock. The farmers of the land have created many terraced fields, the earth held in place by stone walls. Mostly they grow olives and grapes. Grain is also grown, but not enough to feed the populace. There are also crops of poppies, oranges and apricots. What wild trees exist are twisted and gnarly. The Javigeran islands are generally held to be quite beautiful, and the weather is salubrious in the summer.

The Javigeran waters are azure and clear, and rich in life. Reefs grown with algae and sponges are home to shoals of fish glinting like silver and gemstones, to strange cuttlefish and playful dolphins. But beautiful as these waters are, strangers are well adviced to get native guides, as there are countless reefs.

The westernmost islets is wilderness infested with minotaurs, ogres and cyclops, and are best avoided. There is also a persistent rumour of sirenes - beautiful women who lure sailor s to their doom with enthralling song, but sceptics maintain that this is a tale spun by Javigerans to cover up their own piracy.

Javigerans tend to be olive-skinned and have dark, usually curly, hair. The menfolk favour baggy pants and small vests, leaving their chests bare. The women wear heavy dresses and shawls. Javigera is characterized by a more free-wheeling, cheerful spirit than the rest of Clemencia. Your stereotypical Javigeran is a likable rogue. He may be willing to sell you into slavery if the price is right (he may even do it at a discount), but he will do so to pay for a new cloak, rather than offerings to dark gods.

Orteruga is the capital of Javigera and the second-most important city in Clemencia. Countless goods are traded her, from the Clemencian kingdoms, the emirates of Haram and all the other lands of the Shattered Coast, as well as from Bakari and still more exotic realms of the Occident. Even goods from Zanzibar and Azanay reach this place.
