Erdania

The province of Erdania lies on the lowland rim north of the Nicanan plateau and the Black Mountains, and south of the Mare Interior.

Erdania has traditionally been a transitional place, through which trade from the western provinces, the free city of Nicana to the south and the heartland of the empire to the east. With the Confederate Civil War, the trade from the south ended, and only the foolhardy opal miners bring anything of value from the highlands. And when the wind blows from the south, the people of Erdania scent sulphur on the wind, and make the fica gesture to ward of the delirious evil of the fallen city.

The last 150 years, the province of Erdania has been a border province, and it has changed to fill this new role. Forts have been built to the south and west, to keep the madness of the sorcerers at bay. Several legions remain under arms here, wary of Decrian aggression.

The east-west trade continues, however, and the coast of Erdania is dotted with harbour towns, where Cargan, Clemencian and Confederate ships rest on their way.

The inland is rural, though the contamination of Nicana has rendered irrigation even more difficult than it used to be in this dry realm, and drought is common. Olives and wine are the export of Erdania, along with opals mined on the plateau.
