The Cargan Army

While still one of the most potent armies of the world, the Cargan army is plagued by traditionalism, nepotism and intrigue. Whereas the western states tend to have poorly trained troops and a martially adept if unruly officer corps, the Cargans have good infantry, disciplined cavalry and a better overall troop quality than any other military power on the twin continents, but their officer corps leaves much to be desired.

Cargan officers do have qualities to recommend them. They are universally literate, they rarely rush into the fray, getting caught, killed or at any rate losing track of the overall battle. However, they are not warriors.

Equipment and troop types

The modern Cargan legionaire wears scale armor and a pot helm. He also wears a long blue tunic and a navy-blue sash. In theory, the tunic and cloak of a legionaire should also be navy blue, but the high price of navy blue dye means that most uniforms have a far paler cast.

The triarii legionraires carries a shortsword (gladius), two javelins (pilum) and a medium shield (scutum).

The hastati legionaires carry a long spear (hasta), a shortsword and a large shield.

The arbalesti legionaires carry heavy crossbows, pavise shields and shortswords.

The caphracti are heavy cavalry, wearing plate and scale armour, bearing lance, spatha (broadsword) and shield.
