Naras
Naras is the provincial captial of the County of Gronne-Haute, it is also the greatest inland city of all of Avation, having in excess of 11 000 inhabitants, even after two bouts of the plague.
The city is the primary smelting and metalworking centre of Avation, it used to receive ore and metal from dozens of hillside mining villages.
In addition to its economical importance the city of Naras is also the northern strong point of the Duchy of Corguin. As such, the city is heavily guarded and taxed.
Naras consists of two parts, the inner city, and the foulburg. The inner city is situated on the ridge of a steep hill, and is walled on all sides. The sole gate is accessible only by a narrow road encircling a fifth of the hill, and entry is made over a large dry moat.
The foulburg lies to the eastern and southern side of the hill, parts on the actual slopes of the hill, most in the river valley to the south of the inner city.
The Dwarf Problem
Recently, the city of Naras has been troubled by a spate of abductions. Dwarven rogues have entered the dwellings of the rich and stolen away firstborn sons.
Dwarves have also been attacking mines, corrupting ore, causing cave-ins, and stealing away miners.
These events have led to increased hostility against the dwarves (ca 400) living in the city).
