The County of Heguiolais

Back to Avation

The county of Heguiolais is a border county, running along the western edge of the Great Forest. Farming, swineherding and logging are the main industries, and charcoal and lumber is sent down the river to be sold in Mault and Dephille. There are two small towns, but no major settlements.

The foreboding Great Forest to the east is said to be full of monsters: vile goblin assassins, ravenous trolls, fierce dragons and deadly lindwyrms.

The County is tasked with keeping the monstrous inhabitants of the Great Forest from entering Cobelle, and its counts have performed the task adquately in the past, upholding a strong military tradition, and havining a host of trained archers.

In addition to being known for its archers, the county has gained repute for the strong and intelligent mastiffs bred by its counts, supposedly descended from a fairie hound given to a Count of Heguiolais in the distant past.

Despite being recognized as brilliant and erudite, Count Gilles-Artois of Heguiolais has a bad name, it is said that he is a man without virtue. He is known to associate with sorcerers, and it is hinted that he entertains unseelie visitors from the Great Forest and equally disreputable ones from the southern lands.
