The barony of Valsangé is the smallest barony of Gronne-Haute, with about 500 square miles of land, and roughly 20 000 inhabitants. The barony guards the headwaters of the Gronne, and the northwards pass to the county of Hamvalle.
The Valsangé barony is situated in the upper end of the Gronne valley, and is girded in the north, east and south by the Tibellu hills. The foothills to the south and east are particularily tall and rugged, and are hardly passable, while the northern hills are lower and more gently sloped. Small woods nestle in the valleys, while the ridges tend to be wind-blown, grown only with heather and juniper. On high points, there are guard towers and beacons to ward and warn against trâm and dragons.
The valley floor is fertile, and hardly ever lacks for water, as it is a rather rainy area. Countless small rivers dance and wind down to the Gronne, and travellers are often impressed with the many pictoresque waterfalls down the hillsides.
In addition to growing barley, wheat and hops on their lands, most farmers in Valsangé own a flock of sheep, and these are put to pasture in the hills. Shepherds in these hills must be both alert and valiant, for far worse than wolf and bear threaten their herds.
The main settlement of Valsangé is the town of Alylle. In Alylle, the main industries are spinning and weaving, the cloth produced is of unremarkable quality and is rarely shipped outside the county.
To the northwest of Alylle lies the ancestral castle of Valsangé, a stout granite keep which has broken the teeth of more than one goblin rampage, watching the road north to Hamvalle.
Patric's family lives on the slopes of the southern hills, near the border to the barony of Montcuivre. They rule a small village and having but a few hundred sheep in their herds. To the west of their lands there are some old ruins and barrows. which are considered to be haunted and ill-boding. They are called Banelight Barrows, and they mark the border between Valsangé and Montcuivre.
