Sigerskløft is a rugged, windy area between the counties of Hamvalle and Gronne-Haute. The only known settlement is a brooding fortress sharing name with the Barony, overlooking a narrow canyon through which the only decent road between the two counties, and the most direct overland road between the eastern and western parts of Avation, passes. The pass is mainly used for regional traffic, as the road is too ardorous to compete with the coastal road or ship transport. However, to those travelling light, the road can cut several days off the journey between Courite and Dephille, and it is favoured by messengers of all kinds.
Sigerskløft is the proud holding of a dwarven Baron, one of the four holding fiefs under the Avatine crown. The barony derives its name from a fierce battle fought here between dwarves and goblins, over the right to the land. The fallen goblin's bones are piled high in niches along the road. Dwarf guards glare sternly from towers and checkpoints, and dourly collect road tolls for King and Baron.
The dwarves of Sigerskløft tend diligently to a small copper and malachite mine, but most of the metal they work they import from Gronne-Haute (copper and tin) and Hamvalle (iron). They are enthusiastic pig-breeders, and put large herds of swine out to pasture in the southern reaches of the Great Forest, west of Sigerskløft.
