The Barony of Montcuivre

Back to Gronne-Haute

The Montcuivre lands consists of the valley floor south of the river Gronne, upriver of the Goblinghost Bluff, and west of the Balelight Barrows (ca 300 square miles), as well as large tracts of land in the Tibellu hills (ca 500 square miles), including the Sidrenne valley, through which runs the Sidrenelle. This valley is the well-fortified heartland of Montcuivre. The barony has about 35 000 inhabitants.

The Barony of Montcuivre would be unremarkable, had it not been for the rich copper lodes found in the southern Tibellu hills. In addition to copper, the miners extract green malachite and deep blue azurite. Hundreds of miner toil in the shafts, and thousand more have work related to the mining industry. The majority of people work as farmers or sheepherders, though.

There are three towns in the lands of Montcuivre: Borte, Trecore and Sidrenneville. Borte and Trecore are situated on the southern banks of the Gronne, while Sidrenneville is on the banks of the Sidrenelle. From the small town of Trecore (900 inhabitants), one may, on a clear day, see the vaporous exhalations arising from the Cauldron of the Witch;

The Montcuivre ancestral castle is the Castle Garde-de-Dragons.

Malachite is a copper ore. The stone comes in shades of green, and is heavy, porous and soft. For ornaments, it is usually cabochon cut and waxed. It sacred to Venus.

Malachite soothes an overtaxed nervous system, cures colds and diarreha, and draws wealth and love to the owner.

If carved in a triangle and properly prepared, malachite protects against magic and the evil eye.
