Toubel is at the centre of Gronne-Base, roughly 60 miles east of Dephille, 30 miles west of the border with Gronne-Haute, an equal distance from the northern border, and 35 miles north of the Tartor border, all distances as the crow flies.
The firmly walled town sits on the western bank of the Gronne. The main bell tower of its cathedral is visible many miles away (in clear weather).
Toubel is an old town, and held greater importance in the olden days, before the coming of the Cargans. It was the capital of the area, before the importance of the sea trade let Dephille eclipse it.
The Cargans built Toubel Bridge, the first bridge to span the Gronne, though before that time the travellers were ferried over by Toubel's diligent boatsmen.
Toubel remains the sacral centre of Gronne-Base, and indeed, the entire Gronne valley. Its cathedral is considered very beautiful, and its library is probably the most extensive in the Gronne valley.
Perhaps Toubel's greatest claim to fame is its annual truffle market, where truffles from the eastern slopes of Holmarene are traded. Prime specimen are worth many times their weight in silver.
Currently, Toubel is the main camp of the Condottiere's army.
