The baillage of Gronne-Base encompasses the lower valley of the Gronne river. It is about 5300 square miles in area.
The land of Gronne-Base is mostly rich, loamy plain, where grain and vegetables yield good harvest. The land is dotted with villages and small towns, but all are eclipsed by the county's capital, Dephille.
The Gronne flows slow and wide through Gronne-Base. At the border with Gronne-Haute it already exceeds 300 yards in width, and as it reaches the Bay of Gronne, it is more than 700 yards wide.
The lower valley of the river Gronne is one of the most fertile and populous areas of Avation. The languid slopes of the valley is largely field and pasture, with only small copses and hedges in between. Hundreds of villages dot the landscape. A notable township in the valley is Toubel, staging area for the Count's campaign against the traitors of Gronne-Haute.
Closer to the sea, the valley sprawls out into an alluvial plain, on which Dephille sits at the estuary of the river.
Rhodonine is the land flanking the Gronne's last great arc before reaching the sea. It is excellently fertile land. The hills are vineyards, the lowlands wheat fields.
Above Rhodonine are the Hills of Holmarene. They are mostly low and wooded. Compared to the Great Wood, they are placid, but there are bears, boars and wolves in the Holmarene Woods, and goblins still skulk within it. It is said that an ancient dragon sleeps under one hill, but no dragon has made a lasting claim to the area for three centuries.
