Eloreville Eloreville is a city situated about a mile upriver on the river Lara. Situated on mostly flat, alluvial land, it is plagued by flood..
The economical centre of the Duchy of Corguin, the city of Eloreville has grown by a third ver the last ten years, mainly during the last five. The city has gone from 20 000 to 26 000 inhabitants. Many of the immigrants have come from Numaron.
About fifteen hundred of Eloreville's inhabitants are of predominantly Clemencian stock, with dark hair and olive skin. Many of these people are decended from refugees arriving after the fall of the First Dynasty. They speak Frankish faultlessly, but are still bilingual and speak Clemencian among themselves. The Clemencian-Avatines control the city's jewellry trade, but have recently received fierce competition from the dwarves.
The city's dwarven ghetto, houses a couple of hundred dwarves as permanent residents, and also receives visitors from the Dwarven baronies in the highlands.
Quite a few smiths and metalworkers ply their trade in Eloreville, even more importantly, the city is the main port for shipping out metal and metal goods both from Eloreville and the dwarven baronies. Additionally, many farmers and villagers from the southern plains buy goods from the city.
The city has 1000 soldiers under arms (2/3 are usually within the city), and each house has to equip one man for the militia (swelling the army with another 3000 men when neccessary).
Many refugees who come to Eloreville are put to work digging moats, raising ramparts and walls, for this they are kept fed, housed (mostly in houses left empty by the plague) and given a small wage.
On Nevergreen Hill, the traditional place of execution, the Duke has had no less than 20 new gallows constructed, and felons are hanged daily at sunset, frequently they have received their judgement on that very day.
Eloreville's inhabitants and visitors are meticulously taxed (1 dernier per head of cattlel or person on foot, one sou per horse and two sou per wagon) when coming into the city, and much of this money is spent on the city's defenses.
La Chatau D'Elore: A keep built on a slight raise in the terrain, surrounded by a single courtyard. The Chatau D'Elore was expanded and modernized by the Archduke's grandfather, a bon-vivant. but the Archduke has let it fall into some disrepair, putting his money into improved city walls around Eloreville and into the construction of the mighty fortress of Sanspeur.
The Fane of Orlando's Horn: This very old temple, originally built by Cargans, but altered and expanded by both Clemencian and Avatine lords, has been renovated on the Archduke's command. It is great complex encompassing several shrines. The central shrine holds Orlando's broken horn, a relic. Though a fane of Jupiter, the temple has seen an influx of Terminant priests after the Archduke came to power.
The Vigilant Temple of Dawn is the main Apollonic temple of the city.
The Guild of Hornmakers and Bellcasters has increased in prominence with the increased religiosity of the city.
The Knight-Vigilants have been encouraged to set up a chapterhouse in Eloreville.
