Elaran spans the western quarter of the Matúga peninsula. The northern and eastern inland is hilly and wild, but slopes southwards into fine, well-watered farmland, open grassland and the river valleys of the Lara and the Domun. The hills close to the Matúga fastness are densely forested, although wood-cutters and charcoal-burners have taken their toll.
Elaran is quite temperate, though overly wet. The winters are mild and wet, while the late summers are very hot and humid.
Elaran has much arable land, the Lara and Domun river valleys, in particular are prime farmland
The baillage of Elaran is the westmost in the Archduchy of Corguin. Much of it is held by the Archduke, his sons, or his in-laws. The Archduke is, in addition to his many other titles, Count of Elaran.
Elaran is the heartland of the Archduke's power, and borders on the Coronal lands. They are heavily guarded by his troops, and the Archduke's curfews are strictly enforced. The many gallows seldom stand empty.
The proud city of Eloreville is the capital of Elaran, and of all of Corguin.
The Barony of Tour-Roidonné guards the pass between Corguin and the Coronal lands, at the northeastern corner of Elaran. While technically a direct vassal of the Crown, this Barony, like all Dwarven holdings, is seen as an ally of the Archduke.
