Carreson is one of the two landlocked baillages of Avation (the other being Lombé).
The area is divided by the river Ladroia, with about a third of the baillage west of the river, and the remainder on the east side. The rich Ladroia river valley is intensely cultivated, and the hills above the river are famous for the vineyards where the grapes for the Ladroiane sparkling wines are grown.
The other river valley of Carreson is the Damphine valley. It is smaller than the Ladroia valley. Its river has a reputation of being particularily pure and health-bringing, and the same reputation adheres to the Damphine fruit wines.
Usur is the province capital of the baillage of Carreson, and the seat of the Duke of Carreson. Home to about 7000 human souls, the town has a very cosmopolitan feel for an inland settlement, sitting at the junction of four trade roads, and being a river port to boot.
The Fount of St. Dampha is a temple at the spring of the Damphine river. Both temple and river draw their name from the spirit Dampha, whom is the nymph of the river Dampha. Some say that St. Dampha was at a time a maiden of unusual virtue, others that she is an ancient spirit predating humans. Whatever the truth of it may be, the Fount of St. Dampha are famed for its healing water, and many pilgrims travel to the temple in search of a cure for various ailments. The waters are held to be a particularily good cure for eye ailments.
