Supernatural dangers

- Eggshells are used as boats by fairies. They must be broken to deprive them of transport.

- Fire and light is universal protection against all dire spirits and fell creatures, all except dragons.

- Food should never be eaten without a small portion being sacrificed to the gods and another given to the local spirits.

- Knives should never be given as gifts, always paid for. A gift of a knife brings strife and ill luck.

- Knock carefully on a stone before breaking it apart, as a spirit may be resting within.

- Magic is most potent at night.

- Sorcerers in general and diabolists in particular float on water. Hence the water test.

- Trees have spirits, and these should be warned before the tree is felled.
