Most cities and larger towns house at least one self-proclaimed sorcerer. Others are found in the employ of noblemen or merchants, their wondrous abilities highly prized and well paid for. Such sorcerers for hire often claim to be augurs, alchemists or scholars to make themselves more politically acceptable. Often they are suspected by the populace, but as long as they keep a low profile, their presence is tolerated. Most people who can afford to do so, wind up consulting a sorcerer at least once in their lives, for healing or information. However, it is done reluctantly..
While the populace recognize that sorcerer may have their uses, there are several dangers regarding sorcerers:
Sorcerers may be diabolists, who have sold their souls to Utukki, and must perform certain unholy practices to retain their lives.
Sorcerer's may be vitaphages, using necromancy to fuel their spells with the life-energy of others.
Sorcerers may be tainted by Chaos, carrying cancers, filth and contagion, and may spread taint in their environment through poorly controlled spells. Sorcerers who ruin reality in their haste to furfill their own wishes are called chaos mages.
No sorcerer admits to diabolism, vitaphagy, taint or madness, so all are suspected of hiding one or all of these vile traits. Sorcerers are generally seen as self-serving, arrogant, mentally unstable and very dangerous. It is a quite well-deserved reputation.
