The Astral Plane, the starry realm, is the domain of spirits. The Astral is the closest daimons normally get to Materia, and the furthest the spirits incarnated in Materia roam from it. The Astral is seen as a medium between the Eternal world of the gods, and the Temporal world of matter.
The Astral is form without matter. Those describing it claim that it seems to be made of light, everything in it has its own luminosity.
Being pure form, the Astral realms are often confusing to those used to plodding through gross matter. Space has little meaning in the Astral realms.
Dreaming spirits pass excorporated into the Astral, living second lives in Dream. Discarnated souls pass from Materia through the Astral to their judgement in Kur, and from Kur back to incarnation in Materia.
Either progress is overseen by guardian daimon, while other daimons do their gods' biddings by influencing the gross substance of Materia from the Astral, listening to and advicing mortals as they see fit.
The daimons of the astral mediate between the Eternal and the Temporal. They straddle the gap, some say uneasily. They often remember past lives as mortals, and are not immune to personal nor cultural bias. For this reason they are often called the jealous daimons.
Greatest of the daimons are the eidolons of the gods. Made in the images of deities, they are the closest the ephemeral realms will come to knowing its deities. Even eidolons rarely descend beyond Harmony. As the daimons from higher spheres maintain, the image of the deity should not be mistaken for the deity itself.
There are four realms of the astral.
This is the realm most accessible to the Materia. Indeed, the spirits of sleepers frequently enter it, and dream.
It is represented by the colour purple. It is associated with the element of Air.
The husk of this realm is Nightmare, Obscenity.
It is represented by the colour orange. It is associated with the element of fire.
The husk of this realm is Madness.
It is represented by the colour green. It is associated with the element of Water.
The husk of this realm is Covetousness.
This realm is the integration of spirit, the perfect balance of thought, feeling and imagination.
It is represented by the colour yellow. It is associated with the element of Aether.
The husk of this realm is Discord.
